South African President as Chief Guest at India`s 70th Republic Day Parade |
South African President Cyril Ramaphosa on Saturday joined a select group of world leaders to have graced India`s Republic Day celebrations in the past few decades. President Ramaphosa, was the chief guest at the 70th Republic Day celebrations in India which was celebrated on 26th January. He watched the colourful parade at the majestic Rajpath along with President Ram Nath Kovind, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and a host of other leaders. After Former President Nelson Mandela, Mr Ramaphosa is the second President of South Africa to be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day. Among the various show of strengths in the parade this year, the new additions included the recently acquired Indian military artillery gun system M777 American Ultra Light Howitzers, and K9 Vajra, a self-propelled artillery gun. All tableaux at the parade followed the theme, which marked the 150th birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi who is considered as one of the most inspiring leaders even in South Africa.
