Spate of resignations in Congress |
After the dismal performance of Congress in the recent Lok Sabha elections, problems for the party leadership has only increased as after Rahul Gandhi stepping down from President`s post, two important leaders –Jyotiraditya Scindia and Milind Deora also resigned from their respective posts on Sunday. First it was Milind Deora who stepped down from the post of party`s Mumbai unit chief and within hours of it Uttar Pradesh general secretary Jyotiraditiya Scindia announced his resignation through a tweet. Scindia tweeted, “Accepting the people`s verdict and taking accountability, I had submitted my resignation as General Secretary of AICC (All India Congress Committee) to Shri Rahul Gandhi.” Scindia said, “I am not a leader who gives orders to others. I think when there is a responsibility, there comes accountability as well.” Later clarifying that he had resigned 8-10 days ago. A series of meetings held to discuss the way forward after Gandhi`s resignation have involved only Congress veterans such as Ahmed Patel, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Motilal Vora, Anand Sharma, while the younger lot, seen closer to Rahul Gandhi were not part of the discussions.
