Supreme Court not to monitor CBI probe into RAFALE deal |
The Supreme Court of India has dismissed the petition seeking a court-monitored Central Bureau of Investigation probe into the purchase of 36 French-made RAFALE FIGHTER JETS by the government of India for the Indian Air Force. The Supreme Court ruled that there is no reason to doubt, the process is followed and the need of aircraft is not in doubt and they are satisfied with this. The three-judge bench led by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and comprising justice SK Kauland KM Joseph said that they cannot sit in judgment over the purchase of 36 aircraft against 126 fighter jets. It is not correct for the court to sit as appellate authority in the aircraft purchase. The verdict was delivered by a bench which had reserved its verdict after a hearing on November 14, indicating it would not go into the contentious issue of pricing in the deal.
