The Indus Entrepreneurs lost one its founding members recently with the passing of Ram Paul Gupta, an Indian American entrepreneur and philanthropist.Gupta, who was born in Punjab March 1, 1938, and was a longtime resident of Saratoga, Calif., passed away from complications of cancer Jan. 14. Gupta was 79. The TiE community is deeply saddened by the passing of Ram Paul Gupta, one of their founding members. TiE`s Ram Reddy said that Paul will be remembered for his warmth and kindness. Raised in a large, close-knit family, Gupta left India in 1957, against all financial odds, for a hard-fought opportunity to attend college at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo. Graduating in 1961 with a degree in electrical engineering, Paul Gupta promptly began working in Silicon Valley at Fairchild Semiconductor. Thus began a long and industrious career in the semiconductor industry, with senior management positions at Raytheon Semiconductor and GE Semiconductor as the president of Intersil, it said.
