Trump to meet India inc on Feb 25 in Delhi |
US President Donald Trump will be meeting India`s top business leaders in Delhi on February 25 during his maiden trip to India to seek investments in America in an election year despite the uncertainty looming over a bilateral trade deal. The CEOs` roundtable, which may include Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, Bharti Airtel chairman Sunil Mittal, Tata Sons chairman N Chandrasekaran, Mahindra Group chairman Anand Mahindra, will also be attended by bureaucrats. Trump will seek investments from Indian executives focusing on job creation and manufacturing in the US. These are critical areas for Trump in his re-election bid later this year as the US is a key market for several Indian businesses. Indian companies had announced their plans to invest in the US which included Mahindra, which last year said it will invest another $1 billion in the country and was committed to creating American jobs. Bharat Forge has announced plans to invest $56 million to set up a new plant in North Carolina. The Tata Group is one of the largest Indian-headquartered multinationals in North America, with 13 companies and more than 35,000 employees. Research shows that at least 100 Indian companies have invested nearly $18 billion and created over 113,000 jobs in the US.
