World Bank `STARS` project to boost school education system |
The Indian government has approved the World Bank supported Strengthening Teaching-Learning and Results for States also known as the “STARS” project. The project seeks to support the states in developing, implementing, evaluating and improving interventions with direct linkages to improved education outcomes. Briefing the media after the Union Cabinet meeting, Information and Broadcasting Minister Prakash Javadekar said that the total project costs 780.3 million US dollars with the financial support of the World Bank amounting to 500 million US dollars. He said the STARS project would be implemented as a new Centrally Sponsored Scheme under the Department of School Education and Literacy. He added it will cover the states of Himachal Pradesh, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Odisha. The Minister also said this is an important milestone and the beginning of the New Education Policy.
