World leaders congratulate Modi |
As soon as the election results were out, congratulatory telephone calls and messages were received by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from leaders across the world on his landslide victory. Leaders including Russian President Vladimir Putin, President of Maldives Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Ranil Wickremesinghe, Prime Minister of Israel Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Mauritius Pravind Jugnauth, French President Emmanuel Macron, Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Prime Minister of Australia Scott Morrison, Crown Prince of UAE Mohammed bin Zayed, Prime Minister of Bangladesh Sheikh Hasina, Pakistan Prime Minister Imran Khan, King of Bhutan Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuk, Prime Minister of Bhutan Dr Lotay Shering and Prime Minister of Nepal K P Sharma Oli. US President Donald Trump also congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP on the victory in the General Election. In a tweet, Mr Trump said, great things are in store for the US-India partnership with the return of Prime Minister Modi at the helm. Expressing his gratitude for their compliments and good wishes, PM Modi said that the general elections embodied the strength of Indian democracy, which is the world`s largest.
