Xi wants ties with India on right track |
Chinese President Xi Jinping told India`s Prime Minister Narendra Modi during an hour-long bilateral meeting that he was desirous of putting China`s relationship with India "on the right track". Xi also told Modi that Beijing is prepared to work with Delhi "to seek guidance from Panchsheel", or the five principles of co-existence. In this first bilateral meet between Modi and Xi since the uneasy resolution of the 73-day Doklam standoff, Xi`s statements appeared to be conciliatory. The two leaders met on the sidelines of the ongoing BRICS meeting in Xiamen, China. India and China are each other`s major neighbours, they are also two of the world`s largest and emerging countries. According to the pact, called the Panchsheel Pact, the five principles of co-existence are: Mutual respect for each other`s territorial integrity and sovereignty, Mutual non-aggression, Mutual non-interference in each other`s internal affairs, Equality and cooperation for mutual benefit and Peaceful co-existence.
