Zambian President in India builds cooperation |
Zambian President Edgar Chagwa Lungu arrived in the Indian capital New Delhi on Tuesday on a three day visit to the country. He was accorded the ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhawan in New Delhi and was received by Indian President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi. PM Narendra Modi later held delegation-level talks with the Zambian President in New Delhi on Wednesday. The delegation-level talks will be preceded by a bilateral meeting between the two leaders. President Lungu`s visit will provide an opportunity to further energize India`s mutually beneficial partnership with Zambia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Zambian President reviewed the entire gamut of bilateral relations and cover issues of regional and international interest during the talks. The discussion focussed on cooperation in defence, security, geology and mineral resources, energy, health, education, infrastructure, trade and investment-related issues. Capacity building continues to be an important aspect of India`s engagement with Zambia. The two countries enjoy close and friendly bilateral relations. The bilateral trade between India and Zambia has grown steadily. India primarily imports copper from Zambia, which is the second-largest producer of copper in Africa.
