Airport terminals turn retail hubs |
The world class airport terminals in Indian metros are following the global trend and private operators are converting retail areas into malls for people with high disposable incomes. Sales are outpacing downtown markets and high street shops. Many retailers who are biggest names have their best performing outlets at airports. The Centre for Asia-Pacific Aviation (CAPA) estimates that duty-free spend at Indian airports will touch $1.6 billion by 2021, an eight-fold increase in a decade. The combined spend on duty-free, duty-paid and food & beverage will reach $3.5 billion.
