Delhi to okay enclaves for poor |
The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi wants to give authorization to approve residential enclaves in the national capital that are so far not authorized and pretty much set up by the economically backward as temporary shelters. The new government is responding to the vote bank, it is clear. The AAP government initiated steps like creating a boundary and asking the MCD to prepare layout plans for such colonies. The registry of such colonies would begin after the process of boundary fixation is completed. There are about 2,000 such enclaves that are home to 40% of city`s 23 million population. The Union Cabinet of Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in December 2014 cleared a proposal to amend existing guidelines to do the same thing. It had extended the cut-off date for regularization from March 31, 2002 to June 1, 2014.
