Fastest supercomputers |
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Delhi has the 166th fastest supercomputer in the world, announced US-based technology giant NVIDIA recently. IIT Delhi`s supercomputer -- which is powered by NVIDIA`s GPU Tesla platform - has the 4th fastest supercomputer in India, according to the company. NVIDIA Tesla-based systems comprise 70 systems in the TOP500 list. IIT Delhi uses 860 teraflops centralised compute system which is based on NVIDIA`s Tesla platform. It is the largest High Performance Computing (HPC) system across all IITs and is available to developers, end-users and researchers. Subodh Kumar, associate head computer services center, IIT Delhi was happy to have commissioned the largest GPU-centric HPC cluster in the nation and among the top few in the world. The system is under active use by a variety of researchers. The capability multiplication that the system provides will enable them to reach the next level in their research and help solve challenging problems in Atmospheric Science, Molecular Systems, Biology, Nano-systems, and many other areas," Subodh Kumar, associate head computer services center. In 2012, IIT-Delhi teamed up with NVIDIA teamed to build up a research lab using CUDA and OpenACC coupled with great performance and lesser infrastructure.
