Govt ignores deadline on old vehicles |
The federal and state governments in India are turning a blind eye to the orders by the National Green Tribunal to ban diesel vehicles older than 10 years and petrol vehicles older than 15 years in the Delhi NCR region. Experts call it a virtual abuse of the judicial process, as union ministries and governments didn`t submit their views. NGT had sought their views two weeks ago on its initiatives to act against the toxic pollution levels in the city and elsewhere. An exasperated bench, headed by Chairperson Justice Swatanter Kumar, extended its stay on the proposed ban by two more weeks and warned the authorities that they would forfeit their right to comment or give suggestions on the issue if their views were not submitted by May 18.
