India raises human rights violation in PoK |
India raised the issue of human rights violations in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir during the 33rd session of the United Nations Human Rights Council.Permanent Representative of India to UN, Ajit Kumar told ANI that he made it very clear that J&K is an integral part of India and it represents all sections of the society, unlike PoK.Kumar also spoke about Pakistan sending terrorists across the border. This comes a day after the Ministry of External Affairs rejected the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights plea to allow a team of UN officials to visit Kashmir and take stock of the ground situation. The high commissioner also requested Pakistan to grant access to PoK. Pakistan eventually agreed to the commissioner’s request on the condition that India does the same.Rejecting the request, India contended that Kashmir and PoK are two different issues as the former is governed by a democratically elected government. The Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir is part of a pluralistic and secular democracy, where freedoms are guaranteed by an independent judiciary, an active media and a vibrant civil society.
