Indians like summer vacations |
Indians are beginning to enjoy summer vacations, and just like in western countries they feel that there should be an extended annual holiday. The days of families traveling together or to visit the rest of the family just within India are over. The urban middle class of India, with its ever-increasing disposable incomes, spends summer differently now. A survey of summer vacation habits of Indians says 69% would stay in hotels, 14% would go either for a service apartment or a guesthouse and 5.7% would go for home stays. The trend of staying with relatives and family seems to be on a rapid decline with hotels getting more affordable, available and comfortable. A 323% year-on-year increase in hotel business is seen over the past one year. People lead busy lives, they have less time to spend with families, so they prefer to spend the long summer holidays with the close family, rather than with the extended one. A middle class family typically goes on three to four holidays a year, and one of them, especially the one around a festival, would be spent with the extended family. The trend of vacationing with relatives stays strong among the lower middle class, representing yet another sizeable number of budget travelers. Surprisingly, 42% respondents said they had booked their holiday one to three months in advance.
