Kejriwal meets Modi |
Delhi`s chief minister-designate Arvind Kejriwal on February 12 met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the latter`s residence in New Delhi. Kejriwal was accompanied by close aide Manish Sisodia. The AAP leader is believed to have extended a formal invitation to PM Modi for the swearing-in ceremony at Ramlila Maidan on February 14, but Modi will be away on that day. The meeting came two days after Kejriwal-led Aam Aadmi Party registered a comprehensive victory winning 67 seats in the 70-member state assembly. The BJP`s tally came down from 31 seats in 2013 to just 3 seats this time, the Congress was wiped out from the city`s electoral map. After Kejriwal`s victory, Modi had called him to congratulate and also assure him of Centre`s full support to the Delhi government. Earlier, Kejriwal met with Union Urban development minister Vankaiah Naidu and home minister Rajnath Singh on February 11 and demanded full-fledged statehood for Delhi. Notwithstanding AAP`s stupendous victory, the party`s founder-member Shanti Bhushan attacked Kejriwal yet again, accusing him of accepting `tainted` money and giving tickets to candidates who were prepared to buy votes. Bhushan said Kejriwal had `abandoned` all principles of inner party democracy. Bhushan said AAP must correct course and return to clean politics. Kejriwal gave a large number of tickets to people who had amassed a lot of wealth by questionable means and were prepared to buy votes by distributing money and liquor.
