Lalu-Nitish maul BJP |
In a verdict that is bound to have a national impact, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and RJD leader Lalu Prasad on November 8 trounced the BJP to win the bitterly fought Bihar assembly polls and deliver a major blow to Prime Minister Narendra Modi who led his party. Bihar Election results were JD(U)+178, BJP+59, rest 6. Significantly, over 9 lakh Bihar voters chose not to vote for any candidate in the state assembly polls and pressed the "None of the Above" (NOTA) button on the electronic voting machines (EVMs). As the Bihar assembly election results started pouring in, few political pundits posed a question whether Nitish Kumar can become a rallying point for the opposition at the national level. However, many ofthem discounted the possibility on the ground that Nitish Kumar did not have a presence outside Bihar.
