Lok Sabha passes Land bill |
The lower House of Indian Parliament, Lok Sabha, passed the controversial Land Acquisition Bill after the completion of a heated debate with the government facing stiff resistance from opposition and also its key allies. Union Rural Development Minister Birender Singh proposed amendments to the Land Bill. NDA partner Akali Dal opposed government`s move to get rid of the consent clause in the amendments to the Land Acquisition Act and demanded that farmers` permission should be mandatory before acquiring their land. The government now braces for a tough battle in the upper House, Rajya Sabha, where it lacks majority
