Modi lobbies farmers on Land Bill |
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is leaving no stone unturned to lobby the Indian farmers and rural poor directly to push his government’s Land Acquisition Bill that the Opposition has stalled in Parliament claiming the government was anti-farmer and anti-poor. Modi took on the Opposition two days in a row. On Sunday March 22nd he used his `Mann Ki Baat’ or `From The Heart` radio show to lambaste his opponents by saying they were spreading rumors and canards against his policy. Modi addressed the farmers on radio giving detailed clarifications on the contentious issue and said the Congress party and others were spreading lies to mislead the farmers. Allaying apprehensions of farmers, Modi said he was only correcting the lacunae in the Land Act of 2013 passed by his predecessors. Modi said he brought in some necessary changes in it to protect the interests of farmers, agricultural laborers and villages. But, Modi added that he was willing to consider any changes in the Bill that would be beneficial for farmers. On Monday March 23rd, Modi paid homage to freedom struggle martyrs Shaheed Bhagat Singh, Sukdev and Rajguru at Hussainiwala near Ferozepur in Punjab at the National Martyrs Memorial and addressed a rally.
