Modi reaches out to opposition |
India`s Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 27 reached out to the opposition saying consensus is the only way forward and praising the role of all previous governments in the growth of India.Speakingduring the debate on `Commitment to the Constitution` in the Lok Sabha, Modi said majority in the House does not mean imposing someone`s will. Strongly rejecting any idea of Constitution review, the PM said "the thought of tampering with the Constitution is like committing suicide."Praising the role of all the previous governments, PM Modi said no one can say that the earlier governments have not doneanything for this country. In fact, he had said this from the ramports of Red Fort. Modi also rejected the Congress contention that the NDA government was trying to deny due credit or underminingthe role of leaders like Jawahar Lal Nehru. Later, Modi took an important step towards breaking the deadlock on the Goods and Services Tax Bill as he hosted former PM Manmohan Singh and Congress presidentSonia Gandhi at 7 RCR on Friday evening. The meeting has raised hopes of a smooth winter session of Parliament, with the government and the principal opposition party discussing various important issues pending in the House.
