No monsoon, Mumbai swelters |
The maximum temperatures was recorded at two degrees above normal in Mumbai on June 12. IMD officials said the onset of monsoon is unlikely to take place till June 14. While the city witnessed intermittent showers on June 11, no rainfall was recorded at the Colaba and Santacruz observatories till june 13. It seems Mumbaikars will have to wait longer for the rain gods to smile. The isolated showers on June 11 failed to boost the water stock in the reservoirs, except for two lakes namely Tulsi and Vihar located in the city limits. IMD Mumbai officials said that the monsoon current, was not so strong that means the onset of monsoon in Mumbai will be delayed further. "We are continuously monitoring the situation. The wind direction is currently not very conducive and for the onset of monsoon winds are supposed to be south-westerly or westerly. Currently, the winds are seen having a northerly component. The maximum temperatures recorded on June 12 were 35 degrees Celsius, which was 2.3 degree Celsius above normal. A day earlier maximum temperatures recorded at the Colaba observatory was 29.7 degree Celsius.
