Ovations, applause for Modi in US Congress |
The world’s largest democracy gave more than 50 thunderous applauses and stood in ovation half a dozen times for the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who delivered a landmark speech in US Congress that marks a paradigm shift in India’s growing global stature which comes with Modi being named among the top 10 heads of states. In his 45-minute speech, Prime Minister on 8 June 2016 urged US lawmakers to listen to a new `symphony in play`, to realise the promise of what has been called by incumbent US President Barack Obama and his likely successor Hillary Clinton as ‘the most defining relationship (with India) of the 21st Century’. Modi pointed to shared values and aligned interests of the USA and India that would benefit of the two countries and the rest of the humanity. Modi hinted of India’s role now as a development partner and leader in the new global order where India will play the role of ’sharing and caring’ by offering its technology and innovation for sustainable socio-economic impact growth of developing nations such as Africa. Globally, terrorism remains the biggest threat, going by different names, but with the common philosophy of hate, murder and violence.
