A teenager in Cupertino, Calif., is making a run for a city council seat to instill a youthful voice and bring a fresh perspective into the city’s government.Parth Bharwad, 19, announced he is running for the council seat in the city he’s called home for the past eight years. Currently a sophomore at Cupertino-based De Anza College, majoring in political science and finance, the young Indian American believes he can change the landscape of the city.Bharwad, who intends to pursue a law degree after graduating from De Anza, said he is running for city council so that he can be a voice for the youth in city government, as well as bring a new perspective to the council. Bharwad became interested in politics during his freshman year of high school when he interned in then-Assemblywoman Fiona Ma’s office.Having spent time in the Cupertino school system at the middle and high school levels, Bharwad said, if elected to city council, it would be beneficial to put a focus on the students of the community.The Cupertino city council election is Nov. 8.
