“India’s Daughter,” “Meet the Patels,” “He Named Me Malala” and “Song of Lahore” are among 124 feature films that have been submitted for consideration in the Documentary Feature category for the 88th Academy Awards.Submitted features must fulfill the theatrical releaserequirements and other qualifying rules in order to advance in the voting process. A shortlist of 15 films will be announced in December. Director Leslie Udwin’s acclaimed and controversial documentary, “India’s Daughter,” examines the 2012 horrific gang rape of a younggirl in New Delhi from the perspective of her family, friends and rapists.“Meet the Patels” is a comedic documentary by an Indian American sibling duo, Geeta and Ravi Patel, which tracks the life of 30-year old unmarried Ravi who, with the help of his Gujarati parents,pursues traditional Indian matchmaking on their annual trip to India. “He Named me Malala” chronicles the life of Pakistani education activist Malala Yousafzai .“Song of Lahore,” a documentary directed by Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Andy Schocken, is astory of accomplished musicians who work tirelessly against all odds to reclaim and reinvigorate music in the conflict-ridden city of Lahore.
