Biden adds more Indian Americans in top positions |
US President-elect Joe Biden plans to bring yet another Indian American into his administration. Biden is reportedly planning to nominate Center for American Progress Chief Executive Neera Tanden as director of the Office of Management and Budget, and economist Cecilia Rouse as chair of the Council of Economic Advisers. Before taking the reins at the Center for American Progress, a center-left think tank, Tanden was a healthcare adviser in former President Barack Obama`s administration. She was also an adviser for Democrat Hillary Clinton`s 2016 presidential campaign. Biden`s victory is credited to strong support from the most prominent Indian American, Kamala Harris, now the Vice President elect of the United States. Biden has recently appointed Indian-American Mala Adiga as the policy director of his wife Jill who will become the First Lady. Adiga was a senior adviser to Jill and senior policy adviser for Biden`s 2020 campaign. Biden may end up picking many familiar faces from the Obama Administration. He is said to be planning to induct Wally Adeyemo, a senior international economic adviser during the Obama administration, to serve as Janet Yellen`s top deputy at the Treasury Department. Biden has served as Vice President in President Obama`s team. Biden very well understands what it takes to run a country like the USA. But he also understands the challenge he is inheriting as the USA is suffering from a big recession. Biden`s economic agenda is likely to focus on getting the country past the COVID-19 pandemic and economic problems.
