Hindu Spirituality in Southern California desert |
While the World Hindu Congress 2018 congregated in Chicago, PIO TV Managing Editor by sheer coincidence celebrated Janmashthmi and Ganesh Chaturthi in a little desert community of American retirees called Hemet in Southern California. `Aum Spiritual Center` is 1 year old in this rustic rural setting, home to perhaps 50 odd Indian origin doctors. Internal Medicine specialist couple, Dr. Neelam and Dr. Rakesh Gupta, of Karol Bagh, Delhi, had never imagined they`d come settle in Hemet, near Palm Springs, make a home, flourish and grow, and one day spend nearly 7-digit Dollars to create a community center. Motivated that the land of opportunity, USA, now their home, and their ancestral motherland India, made them able, the Guptas put together a place of spirituality that assimilates multi-culturalism - a demonstration by example by Hindus that their ethos is spirituality that welcomes all beliefs and lifestyles. `Aum Spiritual Centre`, say Neelam and Rakesh Gupta, will also be a place for festivals, art and culture, teaching language and dance forms, holding exhibitions, lectures, concerts, celebrating life and of course providing it for use to all. The Centre has been hosting 20 differently abled children with their parents for a year, and began Yoga classes this week. Cheers to this Indian Oasis in the American Desert!
