US invites early visa applications |
The US Embassy in New Delhi has recommended that visa applicants should hurry up due to heavy demand; the wait for a visa interview getting as long as a month or more. In non-peak travel time, the visa process — getting appointment to give biometrics and then appearing for an interview, if needed, — takes 15 to 20 days. At this time, applicants across India may wait 30 days or more for a visa interview appointment to become available and the embassy expects this wait time to continue for at least the next few months. Mission India`s nonimmigrant visa workload is one of the largest in the world, processing over a million visas a year. In the last five years, the demand for visas to travel to the United States has increased by over 60%, the US embassy said. The number of Indian visitors to the US in 2017 is awaited, while the number in the six-month period from January to June, 2017, was 5.5 lakh.
