Bangladesh High Commissioner to India Syed Muazzem Ali was born in 1944 in Sylhet, Bangladesh. He obtained a Master`s Degree in Science from Dhaka University, professional training at the Civil Service Academy in Lahore, then joined the School of Advanced International Studies, John Hopkins University in Washington DC, and later studied also at the International Peace Academy in New York. He joined the Pakistan Foreign Service in 1968, and retired in 2001. While working in the Pakistan Embassy in Washington, he was among the first to declare allegiance to the Government of Bangladesh. He is a former Foreign Secretary of Bangladesh. His distinguished career spans working in diplomatic missions in 11 countries including the US and India. He also worked at the Permanent Mission to the UN in New York, and as Permanent Representative to UNESCO in Paris. Specializing in multilateral diplomacy, he led Bangladesh delegations to Senior Officials, Ministerial, and Summit-level meetings of the UN, UNESCO, Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC), Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), Commonwealth, South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC), Group of 77, and World Bank`s Development Meetings. Ambassador Ali addressed the media at the Foreign Correspondents Club of South Asia, New Delhi, in October 2017.
