Air India troubled by emergency service for planes, conflicts |
Air India, India’s top airline carrier, had just begun to spread its wings after completing its merger of three arms – Air India, Air India Express and Vistara. But, Air India is struggling with troubles due to the horrific crash in Ahmedabad in June 2025, overdue emergency service requirements pointed out by Indian Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and conflicts such as India-Pakistan and the recent Middle East crisis. Reports in Indian media say Air India has been issued a warning for breaching safety rules after 3 Airbus planes operated despite requirement of overdue checks on emergency equipment. DGCA has reportedly issued notices and an investigation report, according to a news wire agency. The documents were sent days before the Ahmedabad incident. Spot checks in May on 3 Air India Airbus planes found that they were operated despite mandatory inspections being overdue on the ”critical emergency equipment” of escape slides. Meanwhile, in the last two months, the India-Pakistan conflict and the recent Middle East one has added to economic duress of the airline. Air India has had to reschedule several flights even cancel some high revenue flights.
