Andhra Pradesh plans Mega Global Medicity in Amaravati
India’s progressive southern state of Andhra Pradesh will set up a Mega Global Medicity under a public private partnership in Amaravati in an area of 200 acres. Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu has revived prestigious projects in the capital, Amaravati, which became the capital in 2015 during his previous term. Post that, next chief minister Jaganmohan Reddy, set up three capitals. Amaravati as the legislative capital with the state assembly, Visakhapatnam as the administrative capital with the state secretariat and Kurnool as the judicial capital. Prestigious projects initiated by Naidu in Amaravati were stalled during Reddy’s time but restarted now.
The Medicity project is among the prestigious national projects proposed under PPP model in Andhra by the federal government run by Naidu’s alliance partner, the Bharatiya Janata Party of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Medicity will boost international medical tourism and promote best health infrastructure also for local residents. The Emir of Qatar in February 2025 has pledged US$ 10 billion investment in India. Medicity is said to benefit from that investment. Under a Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV), a PPP partner will be selected to develop the Mega Global Medicity — 100 acres for healthcare services, 40 acres each for residential and commercial purposes and the remaining 20 acres as a service zone.
