Delhi closes restaurants & bars, private offices |
India`s capital, Delhi, is clamping down on movements, gatherings, offices and restaurants and bars as COVID-19 cases climb steeply at nearly 25% positivity in terms of infections among tested. The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) has decided to restrict dining at restaurants and bars. These establishments will only be allowed to operate the `take away` facility for now in light of the surge in Covid-19 cases in Delhi. On January 10 Delhi reported 19,166 new confirmed cases of infection and 17 more Covid-related deaths. The positivity rate in Delhi is now 25 per cent, the highest since May 5 of last year. There are currently 60,733 active cases of infection in Delhi. This figure includes 35,714 patients who are in home isolation. Earlier, the DDMA had allowed restaurants and bars in the national capital to operate at 50 per cent seating capacity. While a lockdown in Delhi was ruled out, it was decided to close the dine-in facility in restaurants and scale down the seating capacity on Metro trains and buses. On January 9, Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal termed the spread of coronavirus in the national capital a matter of "deep concern". He, however, clarified that the Delhi government has no plans to impose a lockdown just yet.
