Delhi polling at 60.42 percent, exit polls project BJP Govt. |
The Election Commission of India said the highly politically charged Delhi state elections had only an average 60.42 percent voter turnout. While most exit polls show BJP leading and forming a government after 26 years in the city-state capital of India, opposition parties are blaming exit polls for being biased. Congress candidate from New Delhi assembly seat and former Member of Parliament Sandeep Dikshit said the exit polls underestimated the outcome for the outgoing government of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Dixit said even if BJP forms the government the exit poll projections did not give a correct picture of the Delhi Election result. He alleged that the pollsters underestimated the Aam Aadmi Party. Delhi elections were held on 5th February to elect the 70-member assembly. Election Commission reported the highest voter turnout in the North-East Delhi at 66.25 per cent, and the lowest in the South East at 56.16 per cent. Central district recorded 59.09 per cent voter turnout, New Delhi at 57.13 per cent, East district at 62.37 per cent, North district at 59.55 per cent, North West at 60.07 per cent, Shahdara at 63.94 per cent, South at 58.16 per cent, South-West at 61.07 per cent and West registered 60.76 per cent. The votes will be counted on February 8. The last two elections, in 2020 and 2015, were won by the AAP, led by Arvind Kejriwal. The Congress was in power for 15 years before AAP`s victory.
