Diaspora media enhances India`s soft power |
Antar Rashtriya Sahyog Parishad (ARSP) is a non profit society working with the Indian Diaspora for nearly 50 years. It`s founding General Secretary Baleshwar Aggarwal was a well known humanitarian and a leading journalist who gave birth to India`s first vernacular news agency. Remembering him on his birth centenary, ARSP together with Diaspora Research and Resource Centre (DRRC) a sister organization have begun a series of webinars on the role of Indian Diaspora and particularly the Diaspora persons in media to change the narrative about the new India as part of enhancing India`s soft power. As India inches closer to celebrating 75 years of Independence in 2022, Indian leaders and civil society is expanding its engagement with the Diaspora and empowering the relationship with new agenda. This first webinar series was organized on 23rd January 2021 as a follow on to the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) celebrations held on 9th January. In the first of the 2 webinars, keynote address was delivered by veteran journalist Ashok Kumar Tandon who is on the Advisory Board of the Prasar Bharati Corporation of India, or the Broadcasting Corporation of India. Tandon agreed with the moderator Munish Gupta, Chairman of PIO TV, that there was a need to bring together Indians in media, from India and those in ethinic media as well as mainstream media of countries. Leading Indian Diaspora media persons from print, television, radio and online platforms from around the world participated in the webinar.
