First Indian astronaut in International Space Station
India made space history as astronaut Indian Air Force Group Captain Shubhanshu Shukla entered the international space station (ISS) on 26 June 2025. Axiom 4 mission on board SpaceX Dragon spacecraft docked with ISS before time. The Ax-4 crew was welcomed by the seven-member Expedition 73 team and were briefed on safety measures. Entering ISS with Shukla were Former NASA astronaut Peggy Whitson, ESA (European Space Agency) astronauts Slawosz Uznanski-Wisniewski of Poland, and Tibor Kapu of Hungary. The astronauts will be in ISS also known as the orbiting laboratory to undertake science experiments and commercial activities. Shukla sent messages from AX-4 and once inside the ISS. He called the mission this far a collective achievement.Among the joint experiments by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and NASA include experiments on muscle regeneration, edible microalgae growth, survival of aquatic microorganisms, and human interaction with digital displays in microgravity.
