Garcetti gets first key nod as US envoy to India |
Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti, has been nominated by US President Joe Biden as the next US Ambassador to India. He received approval from a key US Conressional panel. But, Garcetti needs the approval of the US Senate, the upper house of the US parliament. The Senate Foreign Relations Committee endorsed 11 other ambassadorial nominations, including Amy Gutmann, to be the US Ambassador to Germany, Donald Armin Blome to Pakistan and Joe Donnelly to Holy See. The nominations now move to the Senate floor. Senator Bob Menendez, Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, said that over 55 nominees are still pending before the committee and many challenges around the world are awaiting them.
