Govt. files petition to return land acquired in Ayodhya |
In an unprecedented move the Govt. has filed a writ petition in the supreme court for returning the 67 acres of acquired land around the Ram-janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid disputed land site in Ayodhya. In a major political action, the central government has filed a writ petition in the supreme court of India, seeking permission to return land acquired in Ayodhya. This land totals up to about 67 acres and is spread around the Ram-janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid disputed land site. The government has been holding up to this land for the last 25 years. There has been an affidavit from the Narsimha Rao government in the 90s that whoever wins the title suit for the Ram-janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid case, the ownership of this land will be handed over to that party. The centre government now wants to give back the land to their original owners as neither they or the their land are part of the land dispute case. This move by the centre comes just a day after the supreme court has deferred the hearing of the case indefinitely due to non-availability of Justice S.A. Bobde. Leaders of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party are seeing this as a move for resolution of the dispute which has been going on for more than two decades.
