India, Pakistan cease fire: US President Trump claims negotiated deal

A full-blown war that nearly engulfed South Asia nuclear-power neighbors India and Pakistan was averted on 10th May 2025 due to US mediation and with some Indian conditions. Indian and Pakistan defense and foreign officials confirmed that the two countries agreed to halt all hostilities and exchange of fire from land, air and sea with effect from 1700 IST on 10th May 2025. US President Donald Trump announced on X that Washington mediated fervently for hours negotiating the ceasefire and was happy about it.

Considering the type of armada used by both sides, and a lot of damage inflicted by India on 9th May night and early morning of 10th May, a full-blown war could have erupted. It is not improper then to say hard negotiations took place in a three-way dialogue between Washington, New Delhi and Islamabad, that led to this truce. Ultimately, and notably, the Indian External Affairs Ministry announced that the Director General of Military Operations of Pakistan called the Director General of Military Operations of India at 1535 hours and two sides agreed to stop all firing and military action. Further, instructions were given on both sides to give effect to the understanding. The DGMOs of both sides will now talk on Monday 12th May at 1200 hours.

Readers may note that the final strikes were by India, potent and damaging. Sources, supported by reports, confirm that the USA did weigh down on Pakistan to withhold IMF loans to salvage the beyond bankrupt Pakistan economy. Pakistan desperately needed US $ 1 billion to thwart potential civic strife in the midst of military damage. No one supported Pakistan in the war, save for Turkey, and perhaps a bit of Chinese covert, not overt, help. Pakistan must still provide much acceptance and abide by tight compliance of further release of bailout funds by IMF.

India has held firm, in the negotiations for ceasefire, that the Indus water treaty remains suspended. India may even commence projects on the three northern rivers. More importantly, India has unequivocally warned, and it had to be accepted by negotiating sides, that any further terror attack will be seen as an act of war.

India has carried out a responsible and precise military action under ‘Operation Sindoor’ necessitated in response to the barbaric Pakistan sheltered terrorist groups that massacred 26 Hindus in Pahalgam, Kashmir, on 22nd April 2025. India desisted from an outright war, despite public outcry for revenge and taking back Pakistan occupied Jammu & Kashmir.

In a briefing at the Ministry of External Affairs on 10th May evening after the ceasefire, Indian Navy’s Commodore Raghu R Nair underlined India must dispel Pakistani misinformation, and perhaps some emanating from within India. Indian military spokeswoman, Wing Commander Vyomika Singh said India refutes any claims that India’s S-400 installation at a northern base was destroyed by a Pakistani F-17 fighter jet. She went on to deny Pakistani claims of a BrahMos installation destroyed or destruction of airfields at Srinagar, Jammu, Pathankot, Bhuj, Naliya etc.

Pakistan had spread fabricated allegations that the Indian Armed Forces have targeted mosques. Indian Armed Forces are a reflection of our constitutional values, hold every place of worship of all faiths in the highest regard. India’s operations were aimed exclusively at terrorist camps and facilities being used for anti-India activities. She said extensive damage was done to the crucial Pakistani airbases like Skardu, Sargodha, Jacobabad and Bholari. Loss of Air Defense weapon system and Radars made the defence of Pakistani airspace untenable.

Commodore Nair said misadventure by Pakistan was met with strength and every future escalation will invite a decisive response. India will remain fully operationally ready to launch whatever operations may be required in defence of the nation.

Meanwhile, US President Trump took to X to emphasize in his words “After a long night of talks mediated by the United States, I am pleased to announce that India and Pakistan have agreed to a FULL AND IMMEDIATE CEASEFIRE. Congratulations to both countries on using Common Sense and Great Intelligence”.
