India announces 16th Presidential election |
The Election Commission of India issued a gazette notification for the 16th Presidential election. With this, the process to file nominations for the July 18 election has begun. The nominations can be filed till June 29 and the scrutiny of the papers will be held on June 30, while the votes will be counted on July 21. The term of President Ram Nath Kovind is coming to an end on July 24. As per Article 54, the President is elected by the members of the electoral college consisting of elected members of both houses of Parliament and elected members of the legislative assemblies of all states, including the National Capital Territory of Delhi and the Union Territory of Puducherry.
