India astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla in space after 41 years on NASA Axiom 4 Mission |
Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla exclaimed quote “What a Ride” post lift off on NASA Axiom-4 Mission. On 25 June 2025, Shukla, proudly wearing the Tiranga on his shoulder, became the first Indian from India to enter space after 41 years. NASA, Axiom Space, and SpaceX is the fourth private astronaut mission to the International Space Station, Axiom Mission 4. Shukla piloted the spacecraft from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, USA. The crew will get to the Space Station in a new SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. The Axiom 4 mission is a milestone in space development for India, Hungary and Poland. Peggy Whitson, former NASA astronaut is in command. India’s Shubhanshu Shukla, representing ISRO, is the pilot. Group Captain Shukla is from the Indian Air Force and hails from Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh state. Other mission specialists are Sławosz Uznański-Wiśniewski from Poland and Tibor Kapu from Hungary. India’s ISRO contributed Rupees 550 crores or US Dollars 65 million to be a part of this commercial mission. India has labelled the fortnight long mission as Mission Akash Ganga. The mission docks with the Space Station on June 26 at 4:30 PM IST.
