India evacuates 3,154 citizens from Middle East in Operation Sindhu
India is being applauded for conducting a significant ‘Operation Sindhu,’ once again coming to the rescue of its citizens in strife torn areas. As on 26 June 2025, India evacuated 3,150 Indian citizens and 4 Nepalese citizens from Iran in under two weeks since the Israel-Iran conflict began. A special flight on 25th June brought 296 Indians and 4 Nepalese to New Delhi from Iran. The operation was initiated due to escalating tensions after US-Israeli strikes on Iranian facilities amid a fragile ceasefire. Operation Sindhu began with the conflict in the region and continues especially after military strikes by the United States and Israel on Iranian nuclear facilities. Operation Sindhu was officially launched by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 18 June to evacuate Indian nationals from Iran amid escalating conflict between Iran and Israel. 110 Indian students were rescued on the flight from Armenia that arrived in New Delhi early on 19 June 2025. Multiple special flights and other modes of transport were put in place for evacuations. Evacuees included students, professionals, and tourists. Nepalese nationals stranded in Iran have also been assisted as part of humanitarian cooperation between India and Nepal. As tensions remain and with fear of future escalations, those wishing to relocate back to India are being given safe passage by the Government of India.
