India is amazing from space, says Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams
Returning to Earth after a long ordeal of 9 months aboard the international space station, Indian-American astronaut Sunita Williams told a press conference in USA that her father`s country, India, looks amazing from space.
59-year old Sunita Williams and fellow astronaut Butch Williams addressed a press conference on 31st March 2025 after they recently returned to Earth with two other astronauts as part of the SpaceX Crew-9 mission. It was one of the longest stays in space due to technical problems with the re-entry vehicle to bring them back. When asked about India, her father`s country, Sunita said she will be going back to India, meet people, talk about how she saw India and the Himalayas from space. Sunita said quote "India is amazing. Every time we went over the Himalayas, and I`ll tell you, Butch got some incredible pictures of the Himalayas. Just amazing” end quote. Sunita mentioned India is like a network of lights at night and also beautiful to look at during the day. Sunita said she would love to talk about space exploration and her adventures and work in India. She was certainly also excited about going up on the Axiom Mission coming up. Sunita endorses and is excited about the collaboration between India Space Research Organisation (ISRO) and USA`s National Aeronautics and Space Organization. Sunita is excited to return to space on the Axiom Mission coming up. The Axiom Mission 4 (Ax-4) commercial astronaut mission to the International Space Station that will include Mission Pilot Shubhanshu Shukla of India. Lucknow-born Shukla will be India`s second astronaut after former Indian Air Force officer Rakesh Sharma to go to space since 1984. Sunita Williams`s father Deepak Pandya hailed from Gujarat and came to the U.S. in 1958 where he did his internship and residency training in Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born in Ohio to Deepak and Ursuline Bonnie Pandya.
