India tests new sub-launched n-capable ballistic missile |
Giving a shot in the arm to its defense, India on Saturday successfully test-fired indigenously developed hypersonic nuclear-capable Shaurya missile. This is the advanced version of the Submarine Launched Ballistic Missile K-15. According to the reports, the test was carried out by `Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) from a defense facility off the Odisha coast. The 10-meter-long nuclear-capable Shaurya missile has a strike range of around 800 kilometers. Capable of carrying a payload of up to one tonne, it can be stored in a composite canister. The missile is less vulnerable to anti-ballistic missile defense systems due to its high maneuverability. The test-flight of the Shaurya missile comes just a couple of days after the country successfully test-fired an extended range version of surface-to-surface supersonic cruise missile Brahmos off Odisha coast, which also has a range of 400 KMs. The airframe and booster of this missile have been developed indigenously. The missile can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, as well as from land platforms. BrahMos is regarded as the fastest supersonic cruise missile in the world. It is operational with the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. The successful flight-test of the Shaurya missile extended-range version of surface-to-surface supersonic cruise missile BrahMos is seen by defense experts as major steps in enhancing the country`s indigenous content.
