Kashmir gets first superfast Vande Bharat train in April
India is making long strides in not just railways but also connecting far-flung neglected areas like Kashmir with state of the art comfortable trains for safe and affordable passenger journeys. The Jammu-Katra-Srinagar corridor will witness the first modern high speed train Vande Bharat Express after the Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla rail link of 272 kilometers was just completed and approved. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first run of Vande Bharat Express to Kashmir on April 19. The train will leave from Katra, said officials explaining that Jammu train station was being completed. This train link will the first direct train service to the Kashmir Valley. The original project to connect Kashmir through a rail network started in 1997 but was delayed due to complex terrain, engineering and weather difficulties. The route has 38 tunnels and covers a total of 119 km. One of the tunnels, Tunnel T-49 is India`s longest transportation tunnel of 12.75 km. There are 927 bridges in 13 km. The Chenab Bridge at a height of 359 meters above the river is known to be the world`s highest railway arch bridge.
