Kumbh 2019 concludes on Maha Shivratri |
The 49-day Kumbh Mela ends on Monday with the sixth and last auspicious bathing day on Mahashivratri in Prayagraj. Around 6 million devotees are expected to take a dip in the holy waters of the Sangam on the last day of the mega religious fair. The Kumbh Mela began on January 15 with the first bathing day on Makar Sankranti. Kumbh Mela officer Vijay Kiran Anand said over 220 million devotees had taken a holy dip in the Sangam during the entire course of the Mela till Sunday. Special preparations have been made for the last official bathing day. Pilgrims would bathe at 40 ghats. Vehicular traffic had been stopped from Saturday midnight to avoid congestion in the mela area. Electronic-rickshaws would be provided for the elderly, depending on the crowd situation. The Mela has entered the Guinness Book of World Records for three feats performed on three consecutive days. On February 28, the Prayagraj Mela Authority (PMA) had successfully set a world record for parading the largest number of buses, while on March 1, it set a new world record for the largest number of people painting at the same place. On March 2, the authority succeeded in setting a world record for the largest number of workforce cleaning an area.
