Mauni Amavasya observed across India |
The auspicious Magh Mela was observed in the Indian northern state of Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya in Prayagraj on 11th February 2021. A large number of devotees took the holy dip at the confluence called Sangam of three rivers, Ganga, Yamuna and mythical Saraswati. The devotees reached Sangam the previous night to be early to take the dip. The atmosphere reverberated with `Har Har Gange` and enchanting Bhajans and Kirtans. Hindus believe that Mauni bathing and offering things and money on the occasion of Mauni Amavasya is a blessing. At several places Bhandaras or Langars (free meals) are organized by devotees. Elaborate security arrangements were made to control the crowds and also maintain COVID-19 protocol at Sangam and other places in the state. The devotees also thronged Ghats in Varanasi to take a holy dip in the Ganga river. The bathing also took place at Garh Mukteshwar, Ayodhya, Chitrakoot, Mathura, and Farrukhabad in Uttar Pradesh.
