Modi pays respects to Fomer PM Manmohan Singh |
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has paid rich tributes to his predecessor, Dr Manmohan Singh, who passed away on 26 December 2024 at 92 years of age. In paying his last respects, Modi said Singh was among "most distinguished leaders".
AIIMS hospital in Delhi said the Congress party veteran was being treated for age-related medical conditions and had sudden loss of consciousness at home". Singh was brought to the hospital but could not be revived. Manmohan Singh was Prime Minister for two terms in the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance government from 2004 to 2014. He had been in poor health for the last few months. Congress MP Rahul Gandhi said he "lost a mentor and guide".
