SC reinstates CBI chief Alok Verma |
In a major setback to the ruling Bhartiya Janata Party government, the supreme court on tuesday ordered the reinstating of CBI chief Alok Verma. The ruling government had earlier sent Alok Verma on leave along with CBI`s special director Rakesh Asthana after allegations of corruption emerged against him. There are allegations from the opposition that Alok Verma was `illegally` removed so as to stall the probe into the Rafale scam in which BJP was allegedly involved. The verdict was authored by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and was read out by judge S K Kaul. The court has restrained Alok Verma from taking any major policy decisions until the probe against him is finished by Central Vigilance Committee.
