SC reserves order for mediation of Ayodhya case |
In the most sought after legal battle over the Ayodhya issue, The Supreme Court on Tuesday reserved its order on whether the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute can be settled through mediation. Earlier the court has said that if there is a slightest of chance that the matter can be solved through Mediation, it should be tried an has reserved the order till 5th March. Hearing the case, the apex court also said that this case is not just about property but, also about sentiment and faith. Fourteen appeals have been filed in the apex court against the Allahabad High Court`s 2010 judgment, in which it divided the 2.77-acre land in Ayodhya equally among the three parties -- the Sunni Waqf Board, the Nirmohi Akhara and Ram Lalla. A five-judge constitution bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi said that the court was conscious of the gravity of the dispute and the outcome of mediation on the people of the country. The apex court had asked the contesting parties to explore the possibility of amicably settling the decades-old dispute through mediation, saying it may help in healing relations.
