Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau talked on telephone with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 10th February. This put an end to speculation about strained bilateral ties between the two countries during the last few weeks over farmers` protests in India. According to India`s Prime Minister`s Office, Prime Minister Trudeau requested Modi about Canada`s requirements of Covid-19 vaccines from India. Prime Minister Modi then assured Trudeau that India would do its best to support Canada`s vaccination efforts, just as it had done for many other countries already. PM Modi said in a tweet "Was happy to receive a call from my friend @JustinTrudeau. Assured him that India would do its best to facilitate supplies of COVID vaccines sought by Canada. We also agreed to continue collaborating on other important issues like Climate Change and the global economic recovery.” Canadian PM Trudeau responded saying "If the world managed to conquer the Covid-19 pandemic, it would be significant because of India`s tremendous pharmaceutical capacity. Trudeau also praised the PM`s leadership in sharing this capacity with the world.” Canada was not featured in a list of 25 countries to which the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) had approved the supply of 24 million doses of Covid-19 vaccines on a commercial basis. Officials said Modi and Trudeau also discussed several geopolitical issues. They also agreed to continue the close collaboration between India and Canada in fighting global challenges like Climate Change and the economic impacts of the coronavirus pandemic. The two leaders looked forward to meeting each other in various important international fora later this year, and continuing their discussions on all issues of mutual interest.
