US Ambassador Eric Garcetti leaves India as Trumps becomes President |
Outgoing US Ambassador Eric Garcetti bid an emotional but energetic farewell to India just prior to swearing in of new USA President Donald Trump. Even though President Trump returns for the second time, he will be changing all key and especially political appointees. Ambassador Garcetti was a political appointee of outgoing President Joe Biden. In a social media video message, Garcetti said he had become deeply connected to India since he first visited the country as a child and then a student. He then talked about his term as Ambassador saying he was proud to strengthen bilateral ties and that India-US relations have soared to an unprecedented and strategic level. The 26th US Ambassador thanked Indians - businesses, bureaucrats, politicians and the civil society in general - for being outgoing, supporting him as he built up ties. He said he now loves India as a second home and will nurture the memories for a lifetime. He called India not just incredible but unforgettable. He did emphasise though that an honest bilateral and multilateral relationship that’s evolved between the countries must also address important issues of nuclear cooperation, tariffs and more. Since Ambasssdor Garcetti shared his video on social media, we are happy to share excerpts of it.
